While everybody is doing a list of new year's resolution, I am listing down my 10 biggest pet peeves because I decided that it's time I tell you the many things I hate, other than my metallophobia --
Familiar so? The English Language is not in any way superior than any other languages, it's just another language. If you are training your kids to speak well or to be superior than his/her peers in any possible way, you can start speaking in the language you excel in and train your kids well, even in Mandarin.
People who are brand conscious need the brand(s) to define them and their social status because they themselves are incapable of that.
If you are someone that you can be looked up to, then everything you have on your body is looked up upon. You don't have to parade around someone else's logo.
So here you go. Ten pet peeves.
#1. "Pain or not?", "Pain?", "Is it pain?"
Young parents. It's time to start speaking in correct grammar and ask, "Is it painful?" "Where is the pain?"
#2. Pessimistic / Whiny friends
You know the kind of friends you have not because you are acquainted by some magical rapport, but only connected by friends and/or coincidence. People you meet on a gathering-basis, and all they can yak about is how horrible his/her life is. My motto has always been -- "CUT OFF THE NEGATIVE." So bye bye.
#3. Butt revealing shorts
Why wear pants at all?
#4. Children talking loudly at the cinema
If the kids are gonna comment on everything in the movie out loud, they can write a review after the movie. If you can't control your kids, don't bring them to the cinema. Some kids think that they are smarter or smart enough to comment like an adult (because they are spoilt rotten by their parents who make their children think that they are the smartest beings on earth), the parents actually scold them to shut them up, in the end making the wail in the cinema. Ok. #doublefail
#5. "Going Green"
Many people will fight me on this including my all-gentle business partner Kheng. For he is all about going green. Ok my problem is that I don't believe in the slogan "going green" used by MNCs, brands and small companies because there is always something not so green, which includes the laptop I'm using right now. Everytime a company/brand/association declares its green initiatives, I snub.
#6. Teach your children bad English
"I tell you ar, if you naughty again I will call police come catch you..."Familiar so? The English Language is not in any way superior than any other languages, it's just another language. If you are training your kids to speak well or to be superior than his/her peers in any possible way, you can start speaking in the language you excel in and train your kids well, even in Mandarin.
#7. Challenge my Metallophobia
I have severe metallophobia which means I am so scared of the grinding or clashing sounds of metal, especially cutlery. Yes, there are friends who provoke me by doing it on purpose, right in front of my face and scratching the plates just to see how I react. The worst I reacted was I burst into tears when I was 14 in the canteen (I think). Well you won't see me cry again because before you can do anything more to provoke me, I would have thrown away the metals in your hands.
#8. Girls who refuse to cook
I used to be guilty as charged because I always thought that cooking is difficult and since nobody is making the effort to teach me, why should I learn? For seven years living alone in KL, I have been eating out and paying hawkers/cafes/restaurants to feed me, and I bloated like a balloon. Biggest mistake ever.
All you need is to google and youtube around, you will be able to cook like a pro soon. You can then feed yourself, not burden your boyfriend with dinner ideas and prepare something awesome nice for yourself once in a while.
#9. Brand conscious friends who are unfortunately not rich to begin with
This is just plain unfortunate. Young executives saving up their money and starving for months to buy a piece of luxury item. If you think about it and see what I see, you will realize this:People who are brand conscious need the brand(s) to define them and their social status because they themselves are incapable of that.
If you are someone that you can be looked up to, then everything you have on your body is looked up upon. You don't have to parade around someone else's logo.
#10. Self-service cafes but the patrons don't clean up after their meal
KFC, Mcdonalds, Ikea Cafe, etc - These are self service cafes/restaurants with self-service facilities available, including your after-meal clean up facilities. Unlike the non self-service restaurants, they have waiters and waitresses ready to clean up the table, you as the patron should clean up your own mess before the next patron comes to your table. Yes, you are not wrong to not clean up, but everyone should understand the principle behind, "Do to others what you would have them do to you." Start cleaning up your own mess.So here you go. Ten pet peeves.
